Along the Lines of Fashion
|
1800’s
|
1900’s
|
2000’s
|
|
|
Women
were coming out of the conservative era and lace and beaded gowns were
becoming very popular.
|
|
|
Men
wore tailcoats. They also wore long boots and typically wore hats as well.
|
Men wore dark long coats and top
hats. They used canes even if they were not needed for aide.
|
Men still wear neck
ties but they no longer wear tall boots, tailcoats, and they do not use canes
if it is not needed
|
|
Bodices were used b women to make
their waist look small and their chest look big.
|
|
Women wear jeans now and short skirts.
We also wear high heels that women in the past would never wear.
|
|
We still try to incorporate
fashion from the 1900’s but the way we wear it is in a very non-conservative.
|
||
|
Men wore a lot of neckties
during this time as well.
|
||
|
Men who wore this hat during the
1800’s had a lot of money, usually in the accountant range.
|
Men, today, do not wear dress
hats everyday. Snapbacks are more popular in this day in time.

Black Friday!!
Black Friday
This Friday is a day where you find amazing deals on everything, mostly electronics and jewlery. Many people feel that black Friday is a complete waste of time, they say that they would not go for anything in the world. It is only a day where you can get the best deals on electronics and that is it. Others believe that it isn't a waste of time but they do believe that people do go overboard on trying to get things are not that important. There has been many reports in the past that people get trampled over or hurt because they are fighting over the last shirt or the last pair of shoes. I do think that it is a little crazy to fight over it when you have December sales and New Year sales as well. What do you think about Black Friday? Do you participate in it?
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving
Wednesday, the day that we are all anticipating, is the start of our Thanksgiving break. The day after is Thanksgiving break, where families come together and enjoy the day eating, watching football games, and laughing. Many generations coming together and cooking. Collard greens, corn, turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, cornbread, stuffing, and many different foods that is spread out on the table. Many families have certain traditions that they attend to or they just enjoy themselves. What do you do for Thanksgiving? Is it a tradition?
Veterans Hit by a Train!
Current Event
Veterans Hit by a Train
On last Thursday, during a parade that was for the Veterans, a train was on its way as well. That parade ended on a very tragic note. Four very heroic men died and their families were left wih much sorrow. Sixteen of them were injured and the wounds are said to be severe. It was ver alarming because the Veterans have used the same route for many years so this happening may change the route for future parades. It was reported that two of the men that died, died because they were saving their wives lives. This will be a remebered day because the men who fought for this country, fathers, mothers, and other family members died or injured.

Langston
Hughes a very innovative man, who will forever be remembered for his great
poems, is a man that went through a lot to become noticeable. He was born on
February first in the year of 1902, he was born as James Mercer Langston
Hughes, but everyone knew him as Langston Hughes. He was born and raised by his
grandmother Mary Langston in Joplin, Missouri. He then moved to Kansas with his
mother Carrie Hughes, a teacher and his father James Hughes, a
lawyer.(Childhood). His parents separated soon after Hughes was born. He has
one brother, James Hughes, who moved to Mexico to escape the racial prejudice
in the United States of America. There are no other reports of him having any
other siblings.
During
his childhood, Hughes attended elementary school at Pickeney School. He then
moved to New York to attend school from fourth to sixth grade. Later on in
life, his grandmother died and he went to attend Columbia University, where he
studied engineering, but then a year later he left to work and traveled to make
money to support himself. He continued, from eighth grade, writing many poems
and other works (allpoetry.com). He was working on his auto biography when
someone named Vachel Linday then promoted his poetry. After his poems were
promoted he then returned to college by attending Lincoln University.
At
the University he published his first book of poems called The Weary blues in
1926 (Famous Poets and Poems). This was the break of his career. His very first
poem in that book was "The Negro Speaks of Rivers", one of his most famous works
out of many. He also used jazz rhythms and dialect to express what he was
trying to say in his poetry, essays, stories and plays. During his lifetime he
kept participating in events such as operas and black gospel music. He also
protested against injustice. To be able to let his voice be heard, he often
wrote about the turmoil that many African Americans went through. One of his
most famous works was known as "Simple". "Simple" talked
about such issues and was a very inspirational work of art (peoplesworld.org).
He
continued to write about how he felt about such racial discrimination and as he
continues he became very well known. He then completed a two-volume
autobiography. He won many awards during his life as well. In 1927 he received
the Palms magazine Intercollegiate Poetry Award, he also received a Guggenheim
Fellowship and a Rosen Wald Fellowship. In 1954 he won an award for the best
book on racial relations and in 1960 he won the Spingarn Medal from the NAACP.
(Answers.com) His most famous works are "I, Too Sing America", “The
Weary Blues" and “The Negro Speaks of Rivers"(biography.com). Not only was he famous for his poems, but he
was famous for his essay called "The Negro Artist and the Racial
Mountain", which appeared in the Nation in 1926(redhotjazz.com). Langston
Hughes died on May 22, 1967, he never married and he had no children. His last
work of art was "Black Misery", he died while working on the manuscript
(aalbc.com).
I
feel as though Langston Hughes will forever be the greatest male poet of that
time, even though many people believed that he was homosexual. He grew up in
the Jim Crow era and he was still able to execute what he wanted to say. He did
not allow his hatred of racial discrimination to make him do things violently.
He wrote from his heart and while doing that he made sure that his point was
coming across. He expressed himself not violently but through a peaceful way.
That really inspires me because poetry has a say in issues as well and you do
not always be vocal when trying to express yourself. He will be along side with
many the other great and phenomenal poets, writers, even the African-American
activists.

Homework, Homework, Homework.....
Do you know how it feels to be loaded down with work? When teachers give you a ton of work and then you have to go to practice, clubs, church, or you just have a life to live period? Some teenagers think that it is a good thing because it prepares you for college life, and some teenagers believe that they should not prepare us and let us find out when we go to college. How do they expect us to go to school until four o' clock, go to practice until seven or eight o' clock, and then come home and do homework until twelve o'clock in the morning? What do you think about the situation? Do you feel it is a good thing or a bad thing for teachers to swamp us with work? Why?

Presidential Election
Congratulations to President Obama for winning, yet, another four years in the office. The election was very close and very heated. At one point in the election people thought that Governor Romney was going to win, but it turns out that President Obama dominated once again in the 2012 election. During the campaign, I agreed with everything that the President said but I did think that he could have been more prepared for the speeches that he made. The only reason that I said that was because the Presidential election was such a close call at one point in time. Last night many anticipated to find out the winner of the debate. The electoral votes were 237 to 206.
I felt that during the campaign both candidates could have done so much better and they could have been more prepared. Other than call each other out, they should have been saying how they were going to better the United States. I do feel that people went off of what President Obama said that he was going to do last election because he really did not change a lot of what he said from the previous election. I am glad that Governor Romney did not win the election because if he had won the election then many things would change in our lives. I do believe when he said that he was going to take away the things that are important to us, such as education and taxes for the higher class, it was a disadvantage to him in many ways. First of all people did not think that would have been fair and second, people thought that he was saying he was going to do things that he really couldn't go through to do.

The Election of 2012
Election day is tomorrow and the percentage of votes are 48 percent to 45 percent. President Obama is in the lead with that 48 percent. Some people think that President Obama is in the lead and will stay in the lead because of his race. Some think that he is in the lead only because of the actions that he took after Hurricane Sandy. Many people think that Governor Romney is not in the lead because he would not understand what to do when he got in office. Some think that Governor Romney would be a great leader because he is planning to cut some things out, such as scholarships and food stamps, and many people feel that that is a very good thing. What do you think of the issues at hand and why?
