Along the Lines of Fashion

1800’s
1900’s
2000’s
Womenwore long dresses, usually down to their ankles, and they covered all of their body.

Women were coming out of the conservative era and lace and beaded gowns were becoming very popular.
The dresses worn today are still long, on some occasions, but women tend to show a lot of skin.
Men wore tailcoats. They also wore long boots and typically wore hats as well.
Men wore dark long coats and top hats. They used canes even if they were not needed for aide.

Men still wear neck ties but they no longer wear tall boots, tailcoats, and they do not use canes if it is not needed
Bodices were used b women to make their waist look small and their chest look big.

In the 1920’s, women began to wear short dresses to show their legs, and many men did not accept it. Women did not wear bonnets during this time.
Women wear jeans now and short skirts. We also wear high heels that women in the past would never wear.
Women had to wear bonnets or hats when they were outside of their home. They also wore it to protect their skin; pale skin was popular at this point in time.
These hats incorporated more feathers and designs during this time.

We still try to incorporate fashion from the 1900’s but the way we wear it is in a very non-conservative.
Overcoats were used by men at this time. The way the overcoat looked usually determined how wealthy they were.
Men wore a lot of neckties during this time as well.
Men still wear suits but not everyday like those in the past. Today men wear skinny jeans or jeans that are sagging. Sweaters, vest, and bowties are more popular today as well
Men who wore this hat during the 1800’s had a lot of money, usually in the accountant range.
Top hats were o.k. for honest wealthy, but this hat was worn by gangsters. During the 1900’s gangsters were on the rise.
Men, today, do not wear dress hats everyday. Snapbacks are more popular in this day in time.
